LESS THAN A MONTH AFTER UIW DECLINED, BAYLOR LOSES OUT ON ANOTHER SEPT 12 GAME
Baylor’s season opener against Louisiana Tech is postponed after LA Tech reportedly suffered an outbreak of positive COVID tests in the wake of Hurricane Laura. The two schools have agreed to monitor dates throughout the season to potentially make up the game. It’s a date the Bears filled shortly after the University of the Incarnate Word informed them they wouldn’t field a team in 2020. Though the Southland Conference canceled fall sports in 2020 last month, it left the door open for its teams to play football this season. UIW declined due to health and safety, meaning a potential game against Baylor on September 12 was off the table. The Cardinals were originally scheduled to play the Bears on September 19 but September 12 became an option because it was set to serve as a Southland Conference game against Lamar.
In mid August Richard Duran took us through how UIW came to a decision that has ultimately left Baylor without a football game this weekend.
