New Team, Same Goal: Astros Kick Off 2021 Spring Training
Despite the loss of their star player, the Houston Astros’ goal hasn’t changed: get back to the World Series.
Former Astros’ outfielder, George Springer, agreed to a six-year $150 million deal this offseason with the Toronto Blue Jays, leaving a big hole both in center field and in the lineup.
While his bat and his glove will be greatly missed, the Astros still believe they have the team to get back to the Fall Classic.
“We want to win a World Series,” says right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. “The goal doesn’t change. I think we have the team to do it.”
Houston returns its entire starting infield of Yuli Gurriel, Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, and Alex Bregman. The Astros also have an experienced catcher corps with Martín Maldonado and Jason Castro. Kyle Tucker and Michael Brantley return to anchor the corner-outfield spots.
“We got the same goal. We try to get to the World Series,” says catcher Martín Maldonado. “I know Georgy left, he was a big part of our lineup, but all in all, we feel great, we confident.”
