Next Man Up: Backup QB Shines in Spotlight for Longhorns
When Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger did not return the second half of the Valero Alamo Bowl Tuesday, Casey Thompson was the next man up.
The sophomore backup quarterback found out he was going into the game when head coach Tom Herman came up to him and said “your turn now kid.”
Thompson shined on the Valero Alamo Bowl stage, leading the Longhorns to a 55-23 victory over Colorado. He threw four touchdowns, tying Major Applewhite’s UT bowl record,
“My thought process was very positive,” Thompson said. “I had positive self-talk, and I felt very comfortable in the moment and confident. I believe in what we can do and what I can do. I’ve been preparing for this moment since I stepped foot on campus.”
