SPURS TAKE DEVIN VASSELL WITH 11TH PICK IN DRAFT; SELECT ACC PLAYER OF THE YEAR IN SECOND RD
With their first lottery pick in 23 years, the Spurs draft Florida State standout Devin Vassell.
Vassell talked with our Hector Ledesma following his selection. “I think it’s an amazing opportunity, I think it’s a blessing. I think it’s a great fit for me…a great coach, a great team and I’m just ready and eager to get going”
Vassell tells us he worked out for the Spurs pre-draft, telling us in part, “great workout…probably about 40 minutes of just good work…kind of showed aspects of my game…great feedback from them…they were impressed.” When asked if Gregg Popovich or RC Buford were present at the workout Vassell answered no.
6’7, 20 years old, many regard Vassell’s game as ‘NBA ready.” When we talked with Vassell last week, he did not list the Spurs as a team for whom he worked out, though several analysts and experts had him as a potential pick for the Silver and Black.
With the 41st pick overall in the Second Round, the Spurs draft Tre Jones, a point guard out of Duke who won the ACC’s Player of the Year.
